BJP clashes with ally IPFT in Tripura

In Tripura, the ruling BJP workers clashed with activists of its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the opposition Congress party over submission of nomination papers for the coming by-polls in Panchayat bodies at two different places of the state since Monday.

On Tuesday, two groups of the BJP and the Congress clashed near the Dukli Rural Development block. Police resorted to using tear gas shells and lathi charge to disperse them.

While on Monday, workers of the BJP and its ally IPFT clashed at Boxanagar in Sipahijala district over submission of nomination papers.

According to police, 21 political workers and policemen altogether were injured in the two clashes that occurred in West Tripura and Sipahijala districts.

The BJP and the IPFT have announced to contest the panchayat by-polls and the next Lok Sabha elections separately.

The IPFT charged the saffron party with attacking its cadres while BJP denied the allegation
