APSC scam accused BJP MP RP Sharma’s daughter gets interim bail

Pratidin Bureau

The Gauhati High Court granted bail to Pallavi Sharma on Wednesday, to be with her father, BJP MP RP Sharma who has undergone a kidney transplant recently and is now recovering.

Sharma is an accused in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam and was alleged to have bought her job. She was taken in judicial custody in July.

An officer investigating the APSC scam shared that she had been granted interim bail for two weeks by the High Court to be with her ailing father.

The APSC cash-for-job scam had been revealed in December 2016 when a junior engineer in Dibrugarh was caught for collecting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a doctor on behalf of former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul to ensure a civil service job.

19 civil service officers were summoned for a handwriting test, including Pallavi Sharma. "They were arrested based on expert opinion on discrepancies in their answer scripts," Gautam Bora, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police, said.
