CAB: Ajit Doval reviews NE situation

Ahead of the introductionof Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Parliament, National SecurityAdvisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in Assam aswell as the entire Northeast in New Delhi.

Doval chaired a meetingwith the heads of the security forces and paramilitary forces. According tosources, he reviewed people's perspective towards the bill.

It may be mentioned herethat the CAB was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8 but lapsed in RajyaSabha. Now, the bill has been once again listed to introduce in the ongoingwinter session of the Parliament. The CAB seeks to amend the Citizenship Act,1955 and grant Indian citizenship to people from minority communities – Hindus,Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians – from Afghanistan, Bangladesh,and Pakistan to escape religious persecution.
