Tyagi said that the Congress would play a crucial role at the Rajya Sabha and the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 depends on their stand at the upper house.

"We are opposing the Bill as it is a threat to the demographic fabric of entire northeastern region." – Tyagi said.

He also added that party leader Nitish Kumar to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on it.

JD(U) has already announced that it will vote against the Bill if it is brought in Rajya Sabha and would continue to build a strong deterrence against the Bill along with other NDA alliance partners Shiv Sena and Akali Dal.
