CAB supporters attack AASU leaders

In a sensational incident,BJP as well as its student wing ABVP workers on Wednesday evening attacked AllAssam Students' Union (AASU) leaders, while they were taking out a protestrally in Lakhimpur town against the Centre's move to introduce CitizenshipAmendment Bill (CAB) in the Parliament.

According to reports, the students of North Lakhimpur College, Lakhimpur Commerce College and Lakhimpur Girls' College carried out a protest march in the town opposing the CAB. They also shouted various slogans against the government as well as the BJP. The protest was led by former general secretary of North Lakhimpur College and AASU leader Himangshu Gogoi.

Following which, some members of BJP and ABVP allegedly attacked Himangshu and other AASU leaders, who were leading the protest rally. One of the AASU leaders was admitted to a hospital with serious injuries.

"We were peacefully carrying out the rally opposing the bill when out of nowhere the ABVP leaders attacked me and some of my AASU colleagues," said Himangshu, adding, "They were the supporters of CAB." He further alleged that the BJP and ABVP workers insulted AASU and the martyrs of the Assam Movement.

Later, a complaint against the ABVP members was lodged at the North Lakhimpur Police Station.
