CM Sarbananda Sonowal meets noted intellectual Hiren Gohain

Pratidin Bureau

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today met noted intellectual Dr Hiren Gohain at his Guwahati residence as part of BJP's Jan Sampark (mass contact) program.

While CM Sonowal presented him with the report card of NDA government's four years at the centre and the BJP-led government's two years in Assam, Dr Hiren Gohain also expressed his views and opinions on a number of issues in this tenure of the BJP government.

Dr Hiren Gohain told the CM that he is not satisfied with the way the government is functioning. He also opposed various schemes in the state that has been of no use to people or have gone against the people of this state.

While he congratulated and expressed his satisfaction over the government's initiative to crack the APSC cash for job scam, Hiren Gohain expressed his displeasure over price hike of commodities in the agricultural sector and termed it as an unsuccesfull move.

Dr Hiren Gohain also expressed his concerns over the accuracy of the NRC and doubted whether the process of NRC verification was transparent.

It is quite evident that Hiren Gohain, who is much critical and vocal in opposing the Citizenship Bill, isn't in good terms with most of the Assam BJP leaders including Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has often lashed out at the intellectual. Many BJP leaders have taunted him as a communist and sympathetic to people who want to destroy Assam.
