Conference of all Northeastern police chiefs begins

The 25th conference of DGPs, IGPs and Heads of Central Police Organizations of Northeastern Region started in Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar today.

The conference aims to consolidate the police and security forces over improving law and order situation in the region and formulating strategies to deal with new challenges.

Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, after inaugurating the conference, urged police chiefs to take steps to ensure regular informal talks among senior police officers of interstate border districts to deal with the concerns of people of border areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said in the inaugural session of the conference that in the last four and half years the security scenario of North east has improved tremendously.

The insurgency related incidents in the region have fallen by more than 50 percent, Rijiju added.

He also lauded the role played by state police of North Eastern States and the consistent support by Central Police Forces in maintaining law and order situation in the region.
