Congress leader Mukul Sarma no more

Senior Congress leader Mukul Sharma passed away this morning in a city hospital after prolonged liver related illness. He is 51 and is being survived by a wife and son.

A great debator, Mukul rose to prominence in student politics becoming general Secretary for both Cotton Collegiate School and then Cotton College. He joined Congress in nineties and became a GMC councilor, who later went on to become the Congress chief Spokesman and Party General Secretary.

He was treated in Health City where he had a cardiac arrest as he was in ventilation for past two days.

Former Assam Chief Minster Tarun Gogoi and Congress President Ripun Bora led the party to commemorate him while friends and fans descended in numbers in Cremation ground.
