Debangana Kalita Yet to be Release even After Bail Grant

Pratidin Bureau

Pinjra Tod Activists Debangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal and Jamia Milia student Asif Iqbal have not been released from Tihar Jail yet even after being granted bail by the Delhi High Court.

As per sources, demand has been raised over immediate release on receiving bail to the three activists over an application.

Presence of media has also been prohibited at the online hearing of the application.

After an application has been given to the Delhi High Court upon immediate release of the activists, the court sat for further decision.

As per reports, Additional Sessions Judge Rabindra Bedi was seeking information from the Delhi Police on the verification reports of the addresses of the three accused.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Pinjra Tod activists Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal and Jamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha in connection to the Delhi riots case who were arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal were arrested last year in the Delhi riots case. Activists and various civil society groups came together last week to mark a year of the arrest of the Pinjra Tod activists.

Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita were arrested in May 2020 for allegedly being part of a premeditated conspiracy behind the communal violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020 during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
