Pratidin Bureau

A major development occurred in the Dibrugarh child abuse and labour case on Saturday night wherein the doctor and his wife accused of pouring hot water on their 12-year-old domestic help were arrested from Nagaon.

Siddhi Prasad Deori, a doctor in Dibrugarh, and his wife Mitali Konwar, Principal of Moran College, have been escaping since the minor was rescued by the District Child Welfare Committee and a complaint under various sections of the Child and Adolescent Labour Prohibition Act and Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act was registered on August 31 by the Dibrugarh district police.

"The couple, wanted for causing burn injury to the underage domestic help in Dibrugarh, has been arrested from Nagaon," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh said.

The police have recorded the minor's statement too. Deuri allegedly poured hot water on the boy when he was sleeping in their Milan Nagar house, while Konwar, a witness, has been accused of not providing any medical treatment to the boy.
