Diphu Medical College Likely to Operate from Nov 25

The Diphu Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) will startfunctioning from November 25, informed DMCH Principal-cum-chief Superintendent Dr.Sumitra Hagjer.

Interacting with media persons on Thursday after the inaugurationof the Out Patient Department (OPD) of DMCH, Dr. Hagjer said that the OPD willremain open from 8 am to 2 pm.

Dr. Hagjer said that emergency services and services for criticalcases will be available at Diphu Civil Hospital as of now.

The principal further informed that the DMC will become afull-fledged hospital in a phased manner. "In the first phase, the OPD will beintroduced and in the second phase indoor patients from DCH will be shifted toDMCH." It has also been informed that the operation theatres and laboratorieswill become operational at DMCH.

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmaannounced that the faculties of DMCH will get an additional 25% of basic salaryas an incentive and the decision has been taken to retain the faculty membersin the tough terrain like Diphu.

The health minister further stated that if any retired professorwants to join the institute, then he will be able to serve till 70-years ofage. On the other hand, if a faculty member works in DMCH for three yearsduring any period of his entire career, his retirement age will be 67 years,said Sarma.
