Distribution of Forms for filing claims and objections for NRC begins

The claims and objections phase for inclusion on names in NRC and name correction, if any started on Friday with distribution of special forms at 25000 NRC Seva Kendras (NSKs) across Assam.

The draft for Assam published with the names of about 40 lakh residents of the state not being included in it.
The updating of the NRC is a Supreme Court-monitored process being carried out in Assam.

Individuals whose names have not been included in the complete draft published on July 30 can reapply, while those whose name had been misspell can apply for correction through forms made available in the NSKs.

MHA had warned Assam government that no during the period, no coercive action will be taken against anyone whose name not figured in the NRC draft.

Registrar General of India (RGI) announced that 2,89,83,677 people were found to be eligible for inclusion in the draft out of a total 3,29,91,384 applicants.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured that no genuine Indian citizens would be left out, while no name of foreigners would be included in the final list.
