Draft Education Policy to be Submitted to MHRD

Assam state education department will send its views and inputs on the Draft National Education Policy, 2019 to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in August.

In order to give suggestions on the new draftpolicy, a symposium was held in Guwahati to invite deliberations anddiscussions from academicians from across the state which was attended by stateeducation minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellors of differentuniversities and principals of various colleges of the state.

The new draft education policy introduced by thecentral government in order to reform the education system at all levels ofeducation right from school level to higher education.

 The UnionMinistry of Human Resource Development constituted a committee in June 2017 toprepare the Draft National Education Policy under the chairmanship of Dr. KKasturirangan and the committee submitted its report on May 31, 2019. The reportproposes an education policy which seeks to make the education system more accessible,equitable, affordable and accountable.

However, officials said that the new educationpolicy seeks to make the education system in tandem with the new millennium andaims to be a collaborative exercise between various stakeholders.

Moreover, the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD) on Monday said there will be no imposition of Hindi language on studentsof non-Hindi speaking states after a severe backlash over the government'sthree-language formula in its new draft National Education Policy 2019.

According to the draft policy, Hindi and Englishlanguages would be made compulsory in schools, while students can also choose aregional language of their own as an alternative to promote local languages.
