11 arrested in Biswanath Mob lynching incident

15th th August,  Wednesday a violent mob brutally attacked five persons , killing one and severely injuring three at Line No.15 of the Diplunga Tea estate in Biswanath district of Assam. Police arrested eleven people following the incident from the Adivasi community who work in the Diplunga Tea Estate, about 250 km from Guwahati on thursday. The occupants of a pick-up van,  Deben Rajbongshi, Phoolchand Sahu, Bijoy Nayak and Pujen Rajbongshi were intercepted by a mob suspecting them to be cattle thieves and they were brutally beat up. Deben died of his injuries. The three others were admitted to a hospital.

The video of the attack has gone viral and the victims are seen bleeding and begging for mercy.

Senior police officer Diganta Kumar Choudhury told NDTV. "We were in formed by the villagers that they caught cattle thieves with a van and cattle and some of the locals are brutally beating them. It was about 4:20 am that we got this phone call. We sent our team that took about 20 minutes to reach and rescued them. The video is part of the investigation and all angles are being looked at,"

Shankar Tanti, a resident of the area  filed an FIR, alleging that his cows were stolen and named the five men. Police sources have also added that two cows recovered from the spot belong to Tanti.
