Eminent linguist Dr Pramod Bhattacharya Passes Away

Eminent linguist Dr Pramod Bhattacharya passed away on Sunday at Nemcare Hospital at the age of 94. Dr Bhattacharya was ill since a long time and was admitted at Nemcare Hospital on 24th October.

The Assam Sahitya Sabha expressed their grief over the demise of Dr Bhattacharya," Dr Bharracharya's demise is a great loss for  Assam's social as well as intellectual arena" said the Sabha.

Bhattacharya took special initiative to develop and encourage Bodo language and literature.

He was also the former principal of B Baruah College.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda and well wishers  across the state have  expressed their grief on the demise of the Dr Bhattacharya.

Dr Pramod Bhattacharya would be cremated with state honours at Navagraha Crematorium on Monday.

Born at Digheli,Nalbari, Dr Bhattacharya was awarded Honarary D.Litt from Gauhati University.

He also won the following awards:  Dr Lila Gogoi Award ( Axom Sahitya Sabha), Dr Krishna Kanta Handique Award(Axom Sahitya Sabha), Kamrup Ratna Award(Kamrup Sahitya Sabha),Pragya-Bhusan honour(Prakritik Kabi Sanmilan),Kalpadrum Award,Bhasacharya Honour(Assam Linguistic Society),Sahityacharya Title(Axom sahitya Sabha),Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Award, Kalicharan Brahma Award (Assam Govt.), Sramik- Pran award(Axom Sahitya Sabha,Jorhat)
Felicitated by Asom Sahitya Sabha, Kamrupa Anusandhana Samity(Assam Research Society), Assam Linguistic Society,Guwahati Alochana Chakra and Many organisation of North-Eastern Region.
