Erosion takes severe turn in Tingkhong

Erosionof Longboijan River has taken a frightful turn in Tingkhong area leading to a vulnerablesituation in Pithaguri panchayat.

Accordingto reports, people living near riverbank are facing heavy erosion threat. Erosionin the area has reached such an extent that Longboijan ME School is on theverge of being washed away by the river.

Thoughthe locals as well as the management of the ME School have requested theconcerned authorities to take adequate measures, the officials have notresponded yet.

Localsdemanded some permanent erosion prevention measures by the Water ResourceDepartment to save the school as well as hundreds of bighas of agriculturalland in the area.
