Ex-Ranji player Umesh Sarma passes away

FormerAssam Ranji player Umesh Sarma passed away today at the age of 77 at his ownresidence in Uzanbazar area in the city. Sarma was also the former principal ofGauhati Commerce College.

Sarma breathed his last at around 8 PM, informed his relative. The ex-Ranji player and former captain of Gauhati University cricket team, Sarma was a sports pension holder. He was also the president of Assam Veteran Cricket Association. Sarma represented Assam State Cricket Team in the Ranji Trophy in the year 1967-68.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. His family members informed that Sarma will be cremated tonight at Nabagraha Cremation ground.
