Incessant rains for last 72 hours in the hilly state of Arunachal Pradesh have triggered flash flood in many parts of the state. The worst affected areas in the current flood is its western parts.

The incessant rains also triggered heavy landslides in many areas from Bhalukpung to Tawang. In one such landslides, an Army transit camp at Sessa was damaged. Gush of flood waters washed away two Army vehicles.

As many as 22 jawans and a Junior Commanding Officer (JCO) had a narrow escape while one of them sustained minor injuries. However, there were no reports of any casualty.

The Kimi-Khupi road has also been badly hit. Bhalukpong Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Tomo Riba said that a massive landslide hit the Army transit camp at Sessa and its ration store, barrack, generation room and ammunition store were buried under the debris.

A team of officers led by Bhalukpong police station OC Dutto Bagra rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Mobile and radio connectivity have also been disrupted.

Army personnel were shifted to another barrack located below the transit camp area.

The western parts of Arunachal Pradesh have huge Army installations. These were set up to thwart any security challenge from China in western frontier of state. In every monsoon period, Army personnel face huge difficulty in movement due to inclement weather in the difficult hilly terrain.
