Flood situation likely to worsen in Assam as more rain on the cards for the state

Pratidin Bureau

Though the flood situation in Assam had improved a little in the last few days, fresh wave of flood has hit the state recently in Lakhimpur, Nazira, Sonari and Gohpur among other parts.

Due to incessant rains in parts of the state, many rivers including the Disang and Brahmajan are overflowing, with the water inundating nearby areas.

As per the latest Skymet Weather reports, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Charaideo, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi are expected to remain under threat as heavy rains are highly likely in the districts. With more rains, flood like situations may spread to other parts of the state as well.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected in parts of Assam on July 02.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday assured Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal of all possible help to tackle the flood situation.
