Former ALA Speaker passes away

Former Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA)  speaker Sheikh Chand Mohammed  passed away early this morning at Guwahati.

He died  after prolongillness. Sheikh Chand Mohammed was the Speaker of the ALA between 1979-1986.

Earlier, Assam government had taken responsibility of treatment of former speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Sheikh Chand Mohammad who had not been keeping well for quite some time.

As soon as the chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal came toknow about the poor health condition of the senior politician, he announced totake full responsibility for the former Speaker's treatment by the stategovernment, said a statement issued from CMO.

The former Speaker who had been undergoing treatment at his residence at Gandhi Basti in Guwahati now, was earlier admitted to GNRC hospital.

He would be cremated with state honour today in Guwahati.
