Pratidin Bureau

Churaibari Police on Saturday detained four Bangladesh nationals along the Assam-Tripura border in Karimganj.

The detainees have been identified as Rakesh Sheikh, Ashadul Sheikh, Shana Ullah, and Kachuar Hussain hailing from Rajshahi city of west-central Bangladesh.

The detainees tried entering Assam through Tripura. As per the initial investigation of the police, the four suspects may be associated with the recent case of vandalisation of a Hindu Temple in Bangladesh.

On interrogation, the police officials have learned that these four Bangladesh nationals have even previously entered Tripura through Harishpur tea estate in the Sipahijala district.

The four detainees had boarded a bus of Sherawali Travels bearing the registration number AS01LC-8919 from Agartala and were en route to Guwahati when they were nabbed by Tripura Police.

A further investigation is underway.
