Gambling dens busted in Guwahati, 13 arrested

TheCrime Branch of Assam Police on Friday conducted a raid in different locationsof Hatigaon and Beltola area of Guwahati and busted several gambling dens. 13persons have been arrested in this connection. During the operations, thepolice could successfully recover a large number of 'teer' tickets.

Accordingto reports, it has been alleged that in the stalls, where the raids werecarried out, there were heavy sale of 'teer' tickets. "Gambling has been goingon in the stall since several months now," alleged a local resident ofHatigaon's Lakhimi Nagar area.

The arrested have been identified as- Samsul Haque, Majibur Rahman, Bikash Barman, Saidul Islam, Abdul Hamid, Hiren Chandra Bharali, Abdul Haque, Safikul Haque, Imanul Islam, Atul Sarkar, Kamruj Jaman, Pradip Nath and Kalyan Das.

Meanwhile, locals have appreciated the move of the Crime Branch to curb the gambling menace which has affected the Hatigaon and Beltola areas in the city like a chronic disease.
