Gaonbura arrested on bribery charge

A government gaonbura has been arrested by the Bhuragaon police in Morigaon district on Sunday. The arrested gaonburha was identified as Abu Bakkar Siddik.

Siddik allegedly demanded money from the people byassuring them of including their names in the NRC list. The gaonbura also intentionallygave false evidence in the court against those who did not pay him the demandedmoney.

"Due to gaonburha Siddik's atrocity, names of severallocals were excluded from the NRC final list," said a local. The gaonburha alsophysically assaulted one Jahed Ali, who demanded Saddik to return the moneyafter his name was excluded from the final NRC. Saddik had also allegedlydemanded money to correct names in the voter list.

On Sunday, Saddik faced the wrath of the public. The residents of Bhuragaon attacked Saddik and later handed him over to the police.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case againstSaddik and initiated an investigation regarding the allegations.
