The Gauhati High Court (GHC) on Monday dismissed the plea of Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF) against the Governor's rule in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

In a hearing on Monday, the court said that the governor's rule will be continued in the BTAD for another 6 months.

The Governor's rule was imposed in the BTAD on April after the term of 40-member BTC expired without an election being held due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The autonomous BTC administers four districts of Lower and Northern Assam falling under the BTAD. The BTAD falls under the Sixth Schedule of Constitution and the governor is the constitutional head here.

The executive member of BPF Jagadish Sarkar had filed the plea against the governor's rule in the area.

Earlier, BTC chief and president of BPF, Hagrama Mohilary, opposed the decision to impose governor's rule in the BTC and informed that his party has filed a petition in the Gauhati High Court against the order of the governor.
