Govt notifies Janmashtami holiday on Friday

The Assam Government has declared August 23 as the public holiday instead of August 24, in the state.

Issuing a letter, it says, "the 23rd August, 2019 (Friday) will now be observed as the Public Holiday in all the Government Offices/ Boards/ Corporations/ Institutions including Industrial Establishments under the state Administration instead of Public holiday already declared on August 24, 2019 (Saturday) and also within the meaning of Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 on the account of Janmashtami.

The Janmashtami 2019 is scheduled to be celebrated on August 24, 2019, although the celebrations start from the midnight of August 23, which is said to be the birthday of Lord Krishna and therefore, it is celebrated across the nation with prosperity and joy.
