Pratidin Bureau

The lockdown in Kamrup Metro has been extended by another week. The extended lockdown will be in effect from July 12 to July 19, 2020.

Saying that the lockdown had to be extended due "to the continuing large scale spread of Covid19 occurring in almost the entire district of Kamrup(M)", Chief Secretary of Assam Kumar Sanjay Krishna announced about the lockdown extension on Twitter.

Movement of individuals will be strictly prohibited during the lockdown. All government and private offices will also remain closed.

All business establishments, shops and trade activities will remain closed except the standalone grocery stores which will remain open from 9AM to 4PM from Monday to Friday.

Likewise, all industrial establishments will remain closed barring the continuous process industries. Public transport will remain suspended, and educational institutions will remain closed.

Earlier in the day, Assam's Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a press meet, had said that although the citizens' body was demanding an extension of two weeks, the government was considering a week's extension of the ongoing lockdown in the Kamrup Metro district.
