Guwahati Lockdown May Be Extended

Pratidin Bureau

The lockdown in Guwahati may be extended by at least a week in light of the surge in the number of positive cases.

This has been suggested today by the Principal Secretary of Assam's Health Department Samir Sinha in a NHM's meeting held at GMCH. He added that if the lockdown is not imposed, the gains made in the past two weeks will go waste.

The Guwahati Police is learnt to be in agreement with the proposal to extend the lockdown.

The meeting, attended by senior government officials and representatives of many wards was held to take stock of the pandemic-induced situation and decide whether or not the lockdown should be extended.

Guwahati has been under complete lockdown since June 29 for two weeks. Jorhat and Golaghat are also under lockdown. The municipal areas of all other districts in Assam are having a weekend lockdown.
