GUWAHATI | Police arrest unauthorized tenants

Pratidin Bureau

With people taking police verification of servants and tenants lightly, Chandmari police have gone into overdrive against house owners in 2019.

This morning, police brought as many as 100 tenants from Bhaskar Nagar in the city for failing to provide details for police verification.

Durga puja is right around the corner, and the city is in a state of high alert. But behind the huge deployment of personnel, scanners, cameras, and barricades, lies a tale of utter negligence on a crucial security-related issue: Proper identification of people living in a particular area.

The mandatory tenant and servant verification process – aimed at detecting criminal background, if any, and maintaining a database of people living under a police station-has broken down in Guwahati city.
