Guwahati: Section 144 Imposed Ahead of Final NRC

Deputy Commissioner of police, East Police District, Ranjan Bhuyan has ordered to impose Section 144 CrPC in some areas in Guwahati ahead of the publication of National Register of Citizens' (NRC) with a view to maintain peace and public order.

According to a press release issued by the Deputy Commissionerof Police, some specified and unspecified persons are likely to disturb thenormal functioning of offices, movement of public and traffic flow in the city.

The East Police District of Guwahati has imposed Section 144 in Dispur, Bhangagarh, Basistha, Hatigaon, Sonapur and Khetri Police Station.

Section 144 of CrPC prohibits an assembly of more than fivepersons, agitation, demonstration, procession etc. in the area and if anypersons are found to be violating the rules, strict action will be takenagainst them.

The order shall remain in force from August 26 until furthernotice.
