GUWAHATI: Weekend relaxation in lockdown for 11 Wards

The Kamrup (M) district administration had imposed a total lockdown in 11 municipal wards from Tuesday. Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna has asked the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration to allow movement of the people of containment zones to buy essentials on Saturday and Sunday.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the government will impose lockdown in Guwahati for 14 days either from Sunday midnight or from early morning of Monday.

The state government has decided to impose the lockdown due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the city.

"In continuation of Notification No.ASDMA 24/2020/Part-1/73 dated 23rd June, 2020 Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan is hereby authorized to allow restricted movement of persons of Containment Zones for a limited period on Saturday the 27th June, 2020 and Sunday the 28th June, 2020 as deemed fit, for facilitating purchase of essential items," stated in an order.

The minister also announced that it will be a complete lockdown adding that even the grocery shops, trade activities etc. shall remain closed during the lockdown.
