Pratidin Bureau

As the Gross Domestic Product of the country slipped to 4.5 percent in the September quarter, the slowest expansion in twenty-six quarters, Assam Congress MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi and Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha on Saturday staged a protest regarding the same in the ongoing session of assembly.

Both Kurmi and Purkayastha today wore paper badges to the assembly that state: GDP 4.5, Hey Bhagwan, Hey Lord, Save Us, No more Achche Din.

It may be mentioned here that both Kurmi and Purkayastha are jointly protesting from the beginning of the winter session of the assembly. They protested against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on the first day of the assembly. On day-2, they protested against the price rise of essential commodities, especially onion by wearing onion garlands.

Today, on the third day of the assembly, they protested against Central government's failure of economic policies after the latest government figures showed that GDP had contracted to 4.5% in the July-September quarter – the slowest growth rate in more than six years, and the sixth straight quarter of slowdown.
