Literary critic, poet and social scientist Hiren Gohain was felicitated by Samahar Natyagosthi, Natun Sahitya Parishad and many other organisations on Sunday at Vivekananda Kendra in the city.

Remembering his past days spent with CPI (M) veteran Hemen Das (Ex. MLA from Sorbhog Constituency) Gohain said that "For him, I learnt what is the meaning of life, what is poverty, what is society… Das gave me the opportunity to understand the relation between life and society. Till then, I am committed to fight for the exploited section of our society. I am really very grateful to Hemen Das."

In the felicitation program, Former Assam DGP Harekrishna Deka proposed a title for Gohain. He suggested the title 'Asomor Bibek' (Assam's conscience) for the veteran social scientist.

Prominent intellectual Udayaditya Bharali, Former Assam DGP Harekrishna Deka, Professor Akhil Ranjan Dutta and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. The entire program was hosted by Prominent journalist and novelist Nirupama Borgohain.
