Leaders cutting across party lines paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 149th birth anniversary.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat today. Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi also paid their tributes to Gandhiji.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Assam government has launched a new pension scheme.

The new pension scheme named after freedom fighter Kushal Konwar, who was hanged during last phase of the Quit India Movement of 1942-43.

Those above 60 will be covered under the Old Age Pension scheme.

The pensioners will get 250 rupees per month, which Rs 200 will come from GoI under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme and rest of Rs 50 from Assam Government.

Assam government employees received khadi cloths under a programme organised by the Assam Khadi & Village Industries Board on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
