Hooch Tragedy: Death Toll Reaches 168

The death toll in the country's worst hooch tragedy rose to 168 on Wednesday and threatening to touch 180 as several other affected people are undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Golaghat and Jorhat district.

The Excise department as well as people have launched crackdown on illicit liquor across the State to prevent occurrence of such tragedies in the future. The government of Assam has also banned the sale of 'Laligur' used in the production of hooch.

Assam CM has ordered a commissioner level inquiry in the tragic incident that claimed the lives of more than 160 people as of now.

Meanwhile, several people on Wednesday organised protest in Golaghat and demanded strict action against the 'Laligur' traders.
