India-Myanmar Conference to be hosted by Manipur

Delegates from Myanmar arrived in the capital of Manipur to take part in the India-Myanmar Conference to be held on Tuesday, June 11.

IndianFoundation, New Delhi organized the conference with an aim to strengthen the bilateralrelationship between the two countries under the India's Act East Policy.

Delegates ofManipur government have given a warm welcome to the 13-member delegation whicharrived in Imphal. The Manipur government delegates include state works andcommerce and industries minister Th Bishwajit who greeted the Myanmar delegates.

The 13-memberMyanmar delegation was led by Chief Minister of Magway Region Dr Aung Moe Nyo. Othermembers of the delegation include four members of Parliament of Myanmar, fivemembers of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and two Ambassadors ofMyanmar to Delhi.

The Myanmarteam was accompanied by India's Ambassador to Myanmar Saurabh Kumar, his spouseV Sekhar who is the Chairman of Indo-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce.

The delegationmet Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary Ram Madhav on reachingMoreh who is a member of India Foundation's Board of Governors. Madhav wasaccompanied by state BJP Vice-President Benjamin Mate.

The IndianFoundation has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Manipurgovernment to develop a strategic vision for Manipur under the Act East Policyon May 10, 2017.

The twonations are likely to discuss issues related to supply of fuel from Assam toMyanmar, overnight stay of Indians at Tamu (Myanmar border town) and medicaltourism among others during the conference. The Myanmar delegates would alsovisit Commonwealth War Cemetery, Kangla, Manipur University, RIMS during theirvisit to the Northeastern state.
