In a first of its kind initiative in Assam, the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has initiated an insurance scheme to cover the front-line employees of the Kaziranga National Park.

The employees covered under this initiative are those who often brave attacks from wild animals as well as poachers.

NRL Managing Director SK Barua on Monday officially handed over the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy to P Sivakumar, Director of Kaziranga National Park.

The insurance policy will cover 1,129 forest guards of the park and provide an insured sum of Rs 5 lakh per insured person/nominee for death or bodily injury, resulting solely and directly from accident caused by external violent and visible means.

It was further informed that weekly benefit of up to Rs 5,000 for maximum 104 weeks has also been provided for temporary disablement.

The claimants can claim the insured amount directly from National Insurance Company Limited, Golaghat.

This policy will be effective from April 1, 2019 for a year-term initially, to be further extended on yearly basis.
