Japanese Encephalitis Claims One In Guwahati

One person identified as Sulobh Bora died on Friday at Guwahati's Nemcare hospital where he was undergoing treatment for Japanese Encephalitis.

Bora was a resident of Guwahati's Birkuchi area and was undergoing treatment since the last eight days.

This is the first Japanese encephalitis death reported in Guwahati.

It may be mentioned here that cases of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) have been increasing at an alarming rate in the state.

With today's death, JE has claimed 10 lives so far in Assam.

As per reports, in Cachar district, three people have been infected with JE out of which it claimed the life of one while in Darrang district one person died due to the disease.

Meanwhile, one person each is infected with JE in Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur and Morigaon while the number of infected persons in Dibrugarh is 3, Jorhat (3), Kamrup (R) (7), Kamrup Metro (7), Karimganj (3), Nalbari (2), Sivasagar (3) and Tinsukia (3).

It may be mentioned here that the number of deaths due to JE is increasing over the years.
