JE claims one more in Hailakandi

JapaneseEncephalitis (JE) has claimed one more life in the State. The victim has beenidentified as Mantu Das of Tempur village in Hailakandi and was undergoingtreatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital.

Thedisease has spread to almost every district of the State killing around morethan 70 people.

JE isvector-borne encephalitis transmitted by Culex groups of mosquitoes. Thesemosquitoes breed mainly in rice fields and large water bodies rich in aquaticvegetations. Migratory birds along with pigs in the community play an importantrole in the transmission of JE from one area to another area.
