Jet Airways to withdraw Northeast flights

Pratidin Bureau

Jet Airways will be withdrawing its flights from Kolkata to Silchar, Jorhat, Aizawl and Imphal from February 10, 2019 as part of a "route rationalisation" exercise.

The airline has already trimmed its network, withdrawing connections between Kerala, Mangalore and West Asia, while adding international frequencies from Mumbai and Delhi.

According to reports, departures of Jet Airways from Kolkata have gone down from 45 per day in mid-2017 to 12-13 departures now. The move, while helping the airline cut down losses, will also result in layoffs at these airports. The route rejig is being carried out in the backdrop of low fares and increasing operating costs.

It should be noted, that Jet Airways withdrew direct flights from Kolkata to Hyderabad four years ago, to Bhubaneswar 3 years ago, to Chennai 2 years ago and to Bengaluru 2 months ago.
