A 16-year-old boy, identified as Ankit Dey, was seriously injured on Sunday when he was attacked by a wild jumbo.

Dey was trying to take a selfie with the jumbo.

The incident occurred in Digboi.

Dey, who is a resident of Muliabari in Digboi was admitted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh in a critical condition.

As per reports, a Class X student of Little Stars Senior Secondary School in Digboi, Ankit was attacked by a wild elephant around 2.30 pm on Sunday when he along with his two friends went to the Digboi Oil Field Area to click a selfie with the wild jumbo wandering in the area.

"Ankit went to one of the wild elephants to snap a moment with him. Getting intimidated, the tusker went violent and chased Ankit while he moved too close to click a selfie. The elephant charged at him and attacked him" informed one of his friends.

A little later on being informed, the security personnel who had allowed the boys earlier to get into the area, rushed to the spot and rescued him.

Ankit was immediately taken to Digboi Civil Hospital for treatment and then to AOD Hospital but doctors referred him to AMCH in Dibrugarh for advanced treatment.

Doctors in AOD hospital said Ankit sustained multiple rib fractures and injuries on his head, chest, and abdomen.

"He is in a semi-conscious state and has been referred to AMCH for advanced treatment," informed an AOD doctor.
