Kamrup District Administration orders separate probes for prisoner deaths

Two prisoners of the Central Jail in Guwahati, aged between 70-79 years, died in two separate hospitals in the city. In light of the two deaths, the Kamrup (M) district administration in an official release has ordered for separates probes.

According to the release, Abdul Sabhan aged 76, died at the B. Borooah Cancer Institute on April 24 during his treatment while Raj Karan Singh aged 70, died at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on April 23.

Sabhan had been shifted to Guwahati from Morigaon district jail on August 09, 2017 for better treatment. Whereas Singh, a resident of Kamrup (M), was admitted to the GMCH on April 23 and died on the same day, it read.

The release also informed that the reports of the probe are to be submitted to the National Human Rights Commission and the Assam Human Rights Commission.
