The devastating flood in Assam has taken lives of 199 animals in Kaziranga National Park (KNP) including 17 rhinos.

Alongwith the people, animals have also been affected in the flood that wreaks havocin the state. As of now, 159 deers, one elephant, two buffaloes and 17 wildpigs have also died in the Kaziranga flood.

Inthe current year, 64 wild animals have been rescued out of which 57 deers havebeen relieved after treatment and five deers have died during the treatment.

It has been reported that under the Panbari Conservation and Rehabilitation centre, 2 rhino calves are under treatment. Reports also say that 27 out of 199 camps are still reeling under-water.

The KNP authorities also informed that four camps in Bokakhatbeat, 37 camps in Agaratoli range, 51 camps in Kohora range, 38 camps in Bagorirange, 12 camps in the Burpahar range and 27 camps in Biswanath range of thepark have been submerged by flood-waters.

The officials further informed that a flood monitoring cell andcontrol rooms have been established in all the Range offices and the divisionoffice, Bokakhat to regularly monitor flood levels.

Vehicles are also being provided with time cards to provide utmostsecurity to animals from being hunted.
