Lock-Out declared at Teok TE

Followingthe unfortunate incident that took place on Saturday evening, the management ofthe Teok Tea Estate has declared lock-out of the estate till further notice.The management decided not to run the TE in view of the attack on the medicalstaff as well as on the senior manager of the TE, who had come to resolve theunruly incident.

Accordingto a notice issued by managing authority of the Teok TE, the locked-out workerswill not receive any wages and other benefits till the lock-out remains inforce. The management has asked for written assurance of discipline and goodconduct from the workers.

However,the medical services, water and electricity supply, watch and ward staffdeployed on security duties in offices and bungalows were kept out of thelock-out notice.

Itmay be mentioned here that the incident took place after a patient named SamaraManjhi breathed his last at the hospital. The attendants and locals allegedthat there were no doctor and nurse when they admitted the patient. Followingthe death of the patient, the angry locals brutally beaten the hospitalauthority and Dr Deben Dutta. During the incident Dr Dutta sustained seriousinjuries and referred to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), butunfortunately, he expired while undergoing treatment.
