Mahanta unhappy with AGP-BJP alliance

Pratidin Bureau

Former Assam Chief Minister and senior leader of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is still unhappy over the alliance of the regional party with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Expressing his displeasure over the alliance, Mahanta on Wednesday informed media that the party did not consult the issue with him. He also said that there was no discussion regarding the alliance within the party and the leaders of the party took the decision on their own.

Mahanta also denied reports of being offered the post of Governor of Mizoram and said, "I am doing politics for self interest."

However, Mahanta remained silent on the question of recurrence of any situation similar to 2006, when he formed Asom Gana Parishad (Pragatisheel).
