Make Mission ‘One library per village’; V. Naidu in NE Bookfair

Pratidin Bureau

Vice President of India N Venkaiah Naidu has inaugurated the 21st North East Book Fair, 2019 in presence of Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, this evening.

Addressing the inaugural session, Naidu said this Book Fair being held today is a befitting tribute to Assam's love for language, literature, and culture and I am confident that the book lovers of the region will collectively make this fair a resounding success.

It is with great concern that I note a decline in the interest in reading, especially among the young people of our country. With the advent of the internet, children now prefer to search for information online rather than rely on books: Naidu added.

I strongly believe that for society to benefit from books, there is a need to have one library per village. As a matter-of-fact, let me take this occasion to say that one library per village and one toilet per home should become a people's movement: Naidu affirmed.
