Me-Dam-Me-Phi observed across the State

Pratidin Bureau

The people of Assam observed Me-Dam-Me-Phi across the State on Thursday to offer tributes to the Ahom ancestors. People of all sections participate in the rituals in different places. Traditional offerings were also made on the occasion.

The word 'Me' means offering, 'Dam' means ancestors and 'Phi' means gods. So the word 'Me-Dam-Me-Phi' means oblations offered to the dead and sacrifices to gods.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend central Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration in Dhakuakhana. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the area ahead of the CM visit as black flag protest continued in the State in opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
