Mizoram battles flood fury

At a time when Assam is reeling under the devastating floods, at the same time, Mizoram is also facing the flood fury due to the heavy rains in the past week.

According to reports, more than 5,000 people have been sheltered in relief camps and over 4,000 people have been evacuated. South Mizoram's Lunglei district is the worst hit among others in the state.

Officials of the State disaster management and rehabilitation department informed that the floods had affected around 1,900 families in 205 villages. the floods has also damaged thousands of houses in the eight districts of the state.

So far, incidents pertaining to flood and landslides has claimed five lives in the northeastern state.

The Khawthlangtuipui river has submerged several villages nearby causing massive damage to property.
