National Games: Centre To Allot Rs. 170Cr to Meghalaya

The Central Government will sanction Rs. 170 crore to Meghalayafor building sports infrastructure ahead of hosting the National Games 2022,said state Sports and Youth Affairs minister Banteidor Lyngdoh.

Lyngdoh said that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowermenthas decided to reduce the amount to Rs. 170 crore.

According to reports, the union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot during his visit to Shillong in October last year said that his ministry would set up one of the five national sports stadiums of international standard for differently-abled in Meghalaya which would cost Rs. 200crore.

However, the latest update says that the ministry has justified the reduction of the amount to Rs. 170crore based on the conditions and requirements of fund.

Meanwhile, the state government of Meghalaya has engaged theHindustan Steel Corporation Limited (HSCL) as the Project Management Consultant(PMC) for building infrastructure for the National Games.

Lyngdoh further stated that the detailed estimates and designs related to the construction of the games village are being prepared by the PMC and by December, the PMC should be able to float tenders.
