Nationwide Strike of Doctors, OPD Services Suspended

The doctors across the country have staged a massive protest in solidarity with doctors in West Bengal who agreed for talks with the government after six days of protest. The strike comes amid allegations that a resident doctor at the country's top medical institute AIIMS in Delhi was abused by the relatives of a patient.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) condemned the attack on the doctor at Kolkata's NRS Medical College. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given appointment to the junior doctors of the hospital at 3 pm.

The IMA saidthat the doctors will not offer non-essential services such as out-patientdepartments and elective surgeries at hospitals, clinics, nursing homes anddiagnostic centers. It further said that all emergency services will remainactive.

The juniordoctors at AIIMS also marched in protest on the campus on Monday morning, asplanned, to show solidarity to the protesting doctors in Bengal.  

To show solidarity to the protesting doctors in Bengal, junior doctors association of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have also staged protest and suspended OPD services on Monday from 6 AM.

The doctors of Kajalgaon in Chirang district have also staged a sit-in-demonstration demanding safety and security of the doctors.
