NESO demands ILP, NRC in each NE State

The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has demandedthat the NRC (National Register for Citizens) process must be carried out inall the north-eastern States even as it strongly opposed the CAB (CitizenshipAmendment Bill).

It further demanded ILP (Inner Line Permit) in each of theNE States, and exempt the region from the purview of the Indo-Nepal Treaty ofFriendship, 1950.

The NESO made its representation before Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday and demanded implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in all the Northeastern States with a base year that might differ depending upon the unique history of each State, Constitutional safeguards with rights over land and natural resources among others.

The NESO expressed the view that due to the influx ofrefugees from Bangladesh during and after the Bangladesh Liberation War of1971, at least 11 districts of Assam out of 24 are now dominated bynon-indigenous people.

At the same time, the NESO demanded that steps should betaken for the recruitment of indigenous people in the government sector as wellas the PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings).
